BIO
John De La O is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY, where he was born and raised. He specializes in acrylic painting, watercolors, and drawing based techniques, primarily on paper and canvas. Working within an abstract/expressionist, figure-based framework, his work deals with dreamlike scenes, personal narratives and symbolism. His other main artistic focus is a unique collage to painting process, enlarging and hand painting images drawn from handmade collages. Influences of early to mid-century illustration, pop art, surrealism, expressionism, traditional portraiture, and graphic signage can all be found in his body of work.
He attended four years of the Cooper Union Saturday program as well as drawing classes at the Art Students League, until attending the School of Visual Arts, graduating with a BFA. Since then, he has shown his paintings in various art fairs, including the Armory Art Fair, as well as Art Revolution Taipei, while exhibiting his work through the Con Artist Collective, and currently at Solas Studios in NYC. He continues to show his work in group shows and in cafes in Brooklyn, where he lives and works today, pushing his painting vision to new heights.
